The Dark History of Old Diplomat Hotel
Baguio City is indeed gifted with a lots of preserved heritage one of those is Old Diplomat Hotel. It is located at Dominican Hill in the City of Pines, Baguio. Waze Direction It was constructed and used to be a rest house and a seminary in the year 1911 and later on it was developed into a school and eventually, a hotel by Dominican Order. In 1915 Old Diplomat Hotel was used as a school and named "Collegio del Santissimo Rosario" just in 2 years due to lack of students and later on revert to hotel. It was bombed during the World War II and numerous nuns and priests were beheaded here.
After the war, the old convent was reconstructed and finished in 1948 when it opened as a 33-bed hotel, while retaining some components from the past, like its large white stone cross.
During the 1970's the hotel was managed by Antonio Agpaoa, an entrepreneur and faith healer who used the hotel to treat patients using psychic surgery, on his conscious patients with his bare hands, without leaving a trace of any incision and it is considered as a hoax.
The hotel finally shut down and left abandoned in 1982 when Agpaoa died at the age of 42. This made way to be the reason why headless ghost can often be seen during the night. The caretakers, guests and residents near the said hotel also claimed that they often hear strange sounds coming from the inside. Crying coming from kids and babies became a common noise, which can be attributed to the massacre of numerous children done at the fountain. Some said those were the spirits of Agpaoa and his patients while others believe it were the restless spirits of those killed in the war such as beheaded priests and nuns.
Since 2005,the Diplomat Hotel belongs to Baguio City which began a restoration project for the building and the surrounding area and in 2013 it was declared a historical site.
